SMX01 Goes Live in Jakarta, Adding AI-Ready Data Center Capacity for Southeast Asia's Largest Digital Economy

JAKARTA, 2 November 2026 – SMX01, a data center in Jakarta's central business district, has reached Ready for Service (RFS) status, adding AI-ready computing capacity in Indonesia as demand for data center infrastructure accelerates across Southeast Asia. Developed by SM+ Data Centers, part of PT Dian Swastatika Sentosa Tbk (DSSA), in partnership with Korea Investment Real Asset Management (KIRA) and LG Sinar Mas (LGSM), the facility has commenced operations and is ready to serve customer workloads.

JAKARTA, 2 November 2026 - SMX01, a data center in Jakarta's central business district, has reached Ready for Service (RFS) status, adding AI-ready computing capacity in Indonesia as demand for data center infrastructure accelerates across Southeast Asia. Developed through a partnership between SM+ Data Centers, Korea Investment Real Asset Management (KIRA), and LG Sinar Mas (LGSM), the facility has commenced operations and is ready to serve customer workloads.

SMX01 brought global standard data center engineering and South-Korean long-term capital into Indonesia, Southeast Asia’s largest digital economy. The data center offers an IT load capacity of 21 megawatts (MW) and can be further expanded in modular phases as demand grows. This flexibility matters as artificial intelligence (AI), cloud services, and digital applications increasingly require data centers capable of supporting power-intensive computing.

The launch comes as Southeast Asia's digital economy is estimated to surpass US$300 billion in gross merchandise value (GMV) in 2025, with the region's data center capacity projected to grow 180%, compared with 120% for the rest of Asia Pacific. Indonesia remains the region's largest digital economy, with GMV nearing US$100 billion in 2025. AI adoption is also gaining pace in the country, where AI app revenue grew 127% between H1 2024 and H1 2025, the fastest growth in Southeast Asia.

As demand rises, the region's data center growth is spreading across more markets. Facilities such as SMX01 can complement established hubs in the region, particularly for AI and cloud workloads that need to stay close to users in Indonesia while remaining connected to the wider region. SMX01 also marks a step-change in SM+ Data Centers' existing footprint. Including the recently announced acquisition, SM+’s network spans 31 data centers across 25 cities in Indonesia, including 30 Edge data centers.

“Computing requirements are becoming more varied. Some still run conventional systems, while others are beginning to need significantly higher performance capacity for AI. That is why we built SMX01 so it can expand alongside the market and our customers' needs.” said Herson Suindah, President Director and Group CEO of SM+ Holdings.

The three partners play complementary roles in the facility. SM+ Data Centers, part of SM+ Holdings and backed by Sinar Mas, owns and manages SMX01, while KIRA serves as the investment partner. LGSM, a joint venture between LG CNS and SM+, leads its design, construction, and technical operations.

“A data center's readiness for AI cannot be measured by rack numbers alone. Power, cooling, and structural load capacity must be planned together from the outset. This is the approach we have brought from our experience building and operating data centers in Korea and globally,” said Donghyup Han, CEO of LG Sinar Mas.

These capabilities also depend on reliable operations. SMX01’s power and cooling systems are designed in accordance with up to Tier IV standards, with built-in redundancy to help maintain service continuity during disruptions or system maintenance.

For regional and global customers, connectivity matters as much as capacity. SMX01 has been developed as a carrier-neutral data center with access to many internet service providers. Four network entry points and connections to SM+’s Edge data center network help link computing operations in Jakarta to users across Indonesia and overseas. At the same time, the high power demands of AI computing have made energy efficiency a consideration from the design stage. SMX01 is one of the first few colocation data centers in the region with the capability to operate all of its data halls using liquid-cooling systems alongside conventional air-cooling systems. This approach significantly reduces overall Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE), a metric that compares a data center's total energy consumption with the energy used by its IT equipment.

Resource efficiency is also built into SMX01’s operations. The facility uses a combination of municipal water and rainwater harvesting, while its chilled-water cooling system recirculates water in a closed loop to support efficient use. These measures form part of a broader environmental management approach covering water treatment, wastewater, chemical handling, and operational monitoring, alongside SMX01’s wider energy-efficiency measures and PUE target.

For KIRA, the facility's operational readiness also marks an important step in its long-term investment in Indonesia's digital infrastructure sector. "SMX01 reaching Ready for Service is an important investment milestone because it turns long-term capital into operating digital infrastructure that can support Indonesia's next phase of digital growth. We see strong fundamentals in the market, and we are pleased to continue working with SM+ Data Centers and LG Sinar Mas as the facility moves from development into operations," said Yong Sik Kim, CEO of KIRA.

According to the three partners, SMX01 has attracted strong interests from global, regional and domestic prospective customers. Following the launch, the three partners will immediately focus on on-boarding its customers and stabilizing operations. The partners see SMX01 as a starting point: the foundation of a carrier-neutral ecosystem where cloud providers, network operators, enterprises, and AI builders can connect, with the standards and partnerships behind it designed to extend to wherever the next need for capacity appears in Indonesia and potentially Southeast Asia.

“As AI and cloud expansions reshape how the region computes, Indonesia is poised to complement established hubs in the region. Digital infrastructure for the region will be built by many hands, and we intend to keep building it together with partners across industries and borders,” closed Suindah.
