Jakarta, May 13, 2026 – The Nusantara Lima Satellite (Satelit N5) has officially entered its operational phase and is ready for commercialization following its successful launch from Cape Canaveral, Florida, United States, on September 12, 2025. This success marks a new chapter for Satelit N5 in supporting the expansion of internet service capacity and digital connectivity across Indonesia, while serving as a vital component in achieving national space sovereignty.

The inauguration of Satelit N5's operations was attended by Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya Hafid, Presidential Chief of Staff Prof. Dudung Abdurachman, Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Prof. Stella Christie, President of Boeing Satellite System International Inc Ryan Reid, Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Indonesian Space Association Burhanuddin Abdullah, Secretary General of the Indonesian Space Association Aryo Djojohadikusumo, President Commissioner of PSN Group Sofyan Djalil, PSN Group Commissioner Retno Marsudi, PSN Commissioner Erry Riana, and Managing Director of Sinar Mas Ferry Salman, along with all stakeholders participating in the project.

Satelit N5 will play a strategic and crucial role in enhancing services across education, health, government services, the digital economy, defense and security, and other sectors that currently lack high-quality internet access, particularly in Frontier, Outermost, and Remote (3T) regions.

Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya Hafid stated that President Prabowo Subianto desires Indonesia's presence on the international stage in various contexts, not only in geopolitics but also in space. Currently, digital connectivity in Indonesia has reached 80% of the total population. This means the government still has the task of connecting the remaining 20% so all Indonesians can enjoy high-quality internet services.

"Our desire is for 280 million Indonesian citizens to be connected, not just in areas near Java, but across various regions from Sabang to Merauke, and Rote to Miangas. We believe the presence of Satelit N5 maintains the three pillars: Connected, Growing, and Protected. We express our appreciation to PT Pasifik Satelit Nusantara and PT Satelit Nusantara Lima for their success in completing all stages of development, launch, and operation of Satelit N5, which has become the highest-capacity satellite in Asia," Meutya said in her remarks.

President Director of PT Pasifik Satelit Nusantara (PSN), Adi Rahman Adiwoso, explained that the operation of Satelit N5 is an important symbol for the nation in maintaining national independence in the space sector. Furthermore, Satelit N5 represents an increase in Indonesia's strength in providing digital connectivity in Asia, extending services to Malaysia and the Philippines. Currently, Indonesia is the largest player in the satellite internet industry in Asia with a total capacity of 403 Gbps.

"We launched Satelit N5 as a concrete manifestation of PSN Group's continuous efforts to ensure Indonesia plays a role on the world stage. With the largest capacity in Asia, Indonesia has guaranteed satellite capacity and opens a new chapter to step forward in the development of the space industry. Satellite technology and space activities have now become a necessity," said Adi Rahman.

Satelit N5 is the largest satellite in Asia with Very High Throughput Satellite (VHTS) specifications and a capacity of 160 Gbps, designed to support national digital transformation across all corners of Indonesia and ASEAN countries such as the Philippines and Malaysia. Utilizing the Boeing 702MP platform with 101 spot beams operating on the Ka-band frequency, the 7.8-ton satellite is equipped with a hybrid propulsion system—using both chemical and Xenon-Ion (XIPS) electronic propulsion—which is ten times more efficient than conventional satellites.

To support operations and services, Satelit N5 has 7 ground stations located in Banda Aceh, Bengkulu, Cikarang, Gresik, Banjarmasin, Tarakan, and Kupang. These ground stations are distributed across Western, Central, and Eastern Indonesia to ensure Satelit N5 services can reach 3T regions that have historically struggled to obtain internet access. The satellite is designed for an operational lifespan of over 15 years.

"Satellite technology is now an indicator of a nation's strength and independence; we must be brave enough to rely on our own national capacity. The importance of sovereign capability for Indonesia is closely related to the nation's ability to be independent, to control, and to have full command over strategic sectors that protect national interests. Space is a symbol of a nation's sovereign rights," said Adi Rahman.

Ryan Reid, President of Boeing Satellite System International Inc, stated that the success of Satelit N5 extends the positive track record of collaboration between Indonesia and Boeing in utilizing space technology to provide the best internet services for the community. Given Indonesia's geography of thousands of islands, the satellite technology created by Boeing is one solution to overcome the digital divide.

Cerdiq: Satellite-Based Internet Service

As a manifestation of the company's commitment to providing quality internet services for Indonesians, PSN introduced its newest product, Cerdiq. Adi Rahman explained that Cerdiq is a user terminal created with a concept of simplicity and lightweight design by PSN's Research & Development team. This product will utilize Satelit N5 connectivity.

Adi Rahman further noted that Cerdiq is part of PSN's program to increase national independence, advance domestic industry, and prioritize the optimization of Local Content Requirements (TKDN) in PSN products. The hope is to increase the competitiveness of domestic products in the global market.

"We invite all stakeholders to collaborate and build a national space ecosystem to achieve space sovereign capability. In this major business journey, a clear goal is the foundation that will determine Indonesia's development direction and serve as a reference for all parties to move together. This journey will support the younger generation in realizing a sovereign Indonesia in the sky," Adi Rahman concluded.
